My Idea

I believe my idea is good enough because it is a combination of both modern and past time. It is a sort of scene which would remind you of older movies but it also contains what you see nowadays. It is not all so cliché but it would give you a type of feel of what would happen next with a bit of suspense.

Sixth Sense

Opening title sequence to sixth sense

Traditional Structure- Sixth sense- This just shows us a dark background to enhance the suspense and let the viewers know that it is a thriller. All we see is a list of the actors, directors and the production company.

Openning sequences to thrillers

Scream 4 opening title sequence

Straight into the film- Scream 4- The movie starts straight off with a phone ringing, then  it goes straight into 2 females being killed with a knife then it shows us that the first 2 females weren't actually being killed that it was just 2 people watching a movie and it plays with the minds of the viewers and introduces them to the genre of the movie by showing us people watching a horror-thriller then it happens again where it shows us a people watching a thriller/horror again but the third time it is actually real and two girls do actually get killed and then the title sequence comes up in the 11th minute of the movie and this gives us the impression that we are about to watch a horror/thriller where people are going to be killed the exact same way as the people in the intro.

What Is A Thriller ...

A genre is a way of categorising a particular media text according to its content and style.
Movies within the same genre often share the same:

1. Theme, tone and thought for example The movies "Insidious" and "Conjuring" are both horrors and they are both about people being possessed and people being killed and haunted.

2.  Effect on viewers- for example all horror movies aim to try and make the viewers frightened and terrified during and after the movie. And comedies aim to make the viewers laugh during the movie.

3. Same methods of keeping viewers from getting bored- for example in horror movies there is usually a lot of suspense that keeps the viewers on edge.

2 thrillers that are entirely different are Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 and Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.
Reasons being: Texas chainsaw massacre has to do with psychopathic serial killer who murders his victims with a chainsaw and a hook. He almost kills everyone in the whole movie without getting hurt or injured and he haunts other places for his victims and everything his does is based at night time. Even the movie poster is some sort of dark poster which creates a dark tone.
While Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol is more of an action film which has a villain and a hero. The shots were taken during the day and at night as well in the poster you see people wearing sunglasses so it shoes its really sunny in some of the scenes unlike the dark and dim scenes in texas chainsaw massacre. And you see people in the background with guns which means they are ready to fight.

Poster analysis

  • The Colours in this poster are dark and shady and not bright and they are used to set a dull tone to the thought of the movie.
  • There Is low lighting on the boy which shows that this is not a movie with a lot of happy moments involving the boy.
  • The colour red is used in both the title and the boys clothing. And red is usually a signal for danger or a warning that the movie is going to be bloody.
  • The name of the movie is 'Insidious' which means working or spreading harmfully in a subtle or stealthy manner. This tells us that the movie is either a horror or thriller
  • The boy in the poster has his eyes wide open and there is some strange colour in his pupil which gives the impression that he is being possessed in this movie.
  • The fact that the boy is the only one out of the whole cast on the poster tells us that the main tragedy/dilemma is with him and it also involves the house in the background as the main scene.
  • The picture of the boy is a close-up shot taken from a low angle looking up which gives him a sense of power and dominance also shows that he is one of the main characters.
