A genre is a way of categorising a particular media text according to its content and style.
Movies within the same genre often share the same:
1. Theme, tone and thought for example The movies "Insidious" and "Conjuring" are both horrors and they are both about people being possessed and people being killed and haunted.
2. Effect on viewers- for example all horror movies aim to try and make the viewers frightened and terrified during and after the movie. And comedies aim to make the viewers laugh during the movie.
3. Same methods of keeping viewers from getting bored- for example in horror movies there is usually a lot of suspense that keeps the viewers on edge.
2 thrillers that are entirely different are Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 and Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.
Reasons being: Texas chainsaw massacre has to do with psychopathic serial killer who murders his victims with a chainsaw and a hook. He almost kills everyone in the whole movie without getting hurt or injured and he haunts other places for his victims and everything his does is based at night time. Even the movie poster is some sort of dark poster which creates a dark tone.
While Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol is more of an action film which has a villain and a hero. The shots were taken during the day and at night as well in the poster you see people wearing sunglasses so it shoes its really sunny in some of the scenes unlike the dark and dim scenes in texas chainsaw massacre. And you see people in the background with guns which means they are ready to fight.
